A diesel generator set, or genset, turns chemical energy in diesel fuel into electrical energy. It combines a diesel engine, an alternator and a control system on a common frame.
Working Principle
The diesel engine burns fuel to produce mechanical rotation, which drives the alternator rotor. The alternator converts that rotation into AC electricity through electromagnetic induction.
Main Components
- Diesel engine
- Alternator
- Fuel system and cooling
- Control panel and automatic transfer switch
Standby vs Prime Power
Standby sets start automatically when the grid fails; prime sets run continuously as the main power source on remote sites.
Common Applications
Construction sites, mining camps, hospitals, data centers and any facility needing uninterrupted or off-grid power.
