Oil-free screw hosts wear on their rotors and seals because there is no oil film to absorb load. A planned overhaul restores output and prevents sudden failure.
1. Record Baseline Performance
Measure free air delivery, discharge temperature and vibration before teardown so you can verify the result after.
2. Disassemble and Inspect
Open the air end and inspect rotors, bearings, seals and the casing for scoring, corrosion and wear patterns.
3. Replace Wear Parts
Fit new bearings, seals and any gaskets. Replace rotors only when clearances or coating wear are beyond spec.
4. Check Timing and Clearances
Confirm rotor timing gear backlash and tip clearances against the manufacturer tolerances.
5. Reassemble and Test
Torque fasteners in sequence, then run-in the host and re-check output, temperature and noise against baseline.
When to Overhaul
Schedule overhauls on operating hours, or when output drops 5–10% below rating with no leak or intake cause.
